Here are a Few More Trends to Try this Season.

1. The Mid Heel.

It's finally happened. Designers have recognized that comfortable shoes can also be fashion forward. Comfort brands like Birkenstocks and a sneakers that range from Converse to Vans are  being paired with everything from leather pants to Midis (skirts that hit mid calf). Another alternative to last year's ballet flats is the mid heel. If you are going for an early Mad Men office look, try them with pencil skirts. Otherwise, I'd recommend something flowy, a-line or asymmetrical to keep it looking young and current.

2. Midis and Maxis.

This spring and summer we're seeing more options for functional and flattering skirt lengths. I am a huge fan of the maxi skirt (especially one with pockets) for anyone who needs to chase after kids while still feeling pretty. Midis are equally effortless and feminine. I bought this one from ASOS in two colors. Whether you wear them with flat sandals, mid heels, sneakers or wedges, they are easy to pair and shift from day to night easily. For a casual look, add a denim jacket or leather vest. Alternatively, a structured blazer works well. Just make sure you are showing your figure and avoiding an all over baggy look. Add a belt, an abbreviated top or tuck your shirt in to define your waist.

3. Fringe.

Believe it. Fringe is back. It may sound extreme and isn't for everyone. However, fringe accents can make a basic top just a little more fun and certainly memorable. Whether it's fringe at the bottom of a skirt or a layered flapper-esque fringe dress, if fringe is for you, now is your time. If that seems just a little bit crazy, try fringe accents on your accessories. Shoes, handbags, jewelry and scarves are a less extreme way to try the trend.

4. Tropical Prints.

Few things are as miserable as an East Coast February. Locally, things have been sunnier than usual, which means that we may not be as desperate for tropical inspiration as we usually are this time of year. You'll soon begin to notice that designers and buyers alike were channeling their vacations when preparing retailers for this spring and summer. Bold Hawaiian prints are all yours. Just do your best to avoid being the oversized Hawaiian shirt with khakis person in the office. Pair with solids or more subdued options and remember to always keep the print size proportional to your frame. That means smaller prints for petites.

5. Minimalism.

Cringing when I write about fringe and tropical prints? Fear not. There's a trend especially for you: Minimalism. Keep things simple with black and white. In past years, we'd add a pop of color- bright lips, colored shoe or handbag, multiple accessories. Get the idea? Not this season. Fashionistas are sticking with black, white or nude shoes to accent and soft natural make-up. Don't underestimate the challenge. White House Black Market couldn't do it. Can you?
