How do I Style Clogs?

FACT: I adore clogs.

Interestingly, clogs are defined as, "shoes that are made completely or in part from wood." That means shoes like my recent find from Ballard boutique re-souL are clogs, despite having an ankle strap. So, there's that.

Since the moment I posted photos of my visit to re-souL, those clogs have been front and center in nearly every conversation. My friend in Colorado even called to ask where she could find a pair (re-souL, naturally). But, despite the enthusiasm over these timeless wonders, it's evident that people often struggle with styling clogs. No more, Dear Reader. No more.

5 Ways to Rock a Clog

1. With culottes.

I'm happy to say this culotte trend isn't leaving anytime soon. This pleases me because as much as I adore clogs, culottes are a close second. The weight of a clog balances nicely with the width of culottes. And, the shorter length of the pant ensures that your shoe will be a focal point in your outfit. Make sure yours are sparkling to make the most of your look. Also, a pair of clogs and culottes can quickly take you to a frumpy place. Keep things elevated with a silk top, leather jacket or cashmere sweater. Alternatively, opt for something edgy and younger. Bold earrings (I'm obsessed with metal options like those from local designer Knuckle Kiss. You can find those and more at Pioneer Square boutique Velouria.)

2. With a jumpsuit or romper.

Believe it. Jumpsuits are here for the duration, so it's time to get on board. Rest assured there is a jumpsuit for every body type. Clogs work well with wide leg styles, options with tapered legs or shorter hemlines.

3. With a dress.

I'm VERY excited about the upcoming re-souL pop up shop at Velouria. Why? Well, clearly I'm a big fan of the two boutiques. Equally important, the styles complement one another so perfectly. Right now, I prefer clogs with minis and midis. Sure, they work with a maxi skirt, but that pairing has to be just right. So, if you aren't feeling adventurous go for shorter options.

4. With wide leg jeans or trousers.

Yes and yes! Long live the 70's. When the rain comes back (and today it sure looks like it will) we'll all need to fall in love again with closed toe shoes. That isn't always easy. Clogs are a nice way to keep your toes warm and dry and still rock a fun look. A high heel, platform or wedge is ideal with wide leg pants.

5. With jeans- skinny, distressed, boyfriend and more.

If you haven't heard, skinnies have given way to a large variety of other styles of pants. Hooray! But, if you, like most women locally are still sporting them on the regular, clogs work well. They are also glorious with distressed jeans (my latest obsession) and boyfriends. Tapered pants can work, too. What I'm saying is, they work with most things.

Steer clear of clogs with an especially dressy look (unless it is flowy, which works). A clog with a conservative suit can border on comfort shoe, which isn't ideal. The thing is this: you want to own the comfort shoe vibe. Make it edgy. Make it cool. And, yes, Dear Reader, I'm confident you can.

Enjoy your weekend!
