Wishlist for Bridgette M. December, 2013
Put together and still approachable, fun & sophisticated without being too stuffy
Ah, the joy of shopping for you continues. Take a look!
I'm starting out with the boots we looked at together so you have them easily accessible. Then, we'll move to some other suggestions that will round out your wardrobe. I love these Steve Maddens for you for a number of reasons. They are comfortable and still edgy. Plus, they can easily coordinate with dresses or over skinnier jeans/ leggings. Based on what we found together, you'll likely get the most wear out of them immediately with dresses. Because they are high and sturdy, you can pair them with heavy tights or sweater tights to keep you cozy, but still look cool.
Okay, you may have noticed that these are not the same Danskos that we saw at Nordstrom. I noticed that price is a factor and if you are going to invest in several new pieces, we'll want to cut costs somewhere:) So, how about enjoying the splendor of Danskooutlet.com? Not only will these work with the variety of skirts and dresses from the Limited, they will work with the jeans you currently own AND any of the pants we found for you. You can easily wear them on the weekends or during the week. Plus, they are appropriate for court. I especially like the idea of them with pants that can show off your ankles. Multiple colors are available. I selected the grey as they'd look beautiful with the color palette of the pieces at the Limited.
Because you are so open about trying new things and because you are drawn to texture, I'm loving this Topshop coat for you. The teal color gives more personality to your wardrobe but can easily be used as a neutral pairing with everything from green to red. The fit is flattering and the style can be dressed up with a (ha!) scarf and a suit or worn casually with jeans, as in the photo. Let's face it, in the Northwest we spend a lot of time in our coats. Often, it may be the only part of your outfit someone sees, so you want it to make an impression.
Also, notice that it hits you at your knees rather than falling at your hip, which is especially flattering for you and looks great with boots.
I can TOTALLY see you rocking these at UW games. In the event that you have other alma madders, they come in a variety of color combinations. I especially like that they communicate your fun side while still being very polished and comfortable. You can wear them with your UW gear or if you happen to be in something else, just quickly swap shoes and you are good to go.
I couldn't do an entire wish list without including a scarf, now could I? The message here is that scarves are available everywhere and for very reasonable prices. The key is becoming comfortable wearing them. Solids are great and a scarf that is one of your power colors (makes you feel good and look even better) are a useful go-to on a rushed morning. Feel free to wear them over necklaces and take them off and on as the temperature or situation changes throughout the day. In the same way that your polka dot scarf communicates fun, this chevron version draws attention. It can be paired with any solid, and is a great way to make a black pair of shoes pull an outfit together instead of being the practical choice.
I'm going with Macy's because I thought it might be nice to show your old stomping ground. Rest assured, you can find Paige jeans at several retailers and sometimes you'll stumble upon a pair at the Rack. These are made for curves and hold up really well over time. Bootcut styles are also available, as are other colors and washes. Mainly, I just wanted to suggest a brand of designer jean that will make you look and feel incredible regardless of activity.
It's true, the mesh is not appropriate for the office as is. However, add a crew neck sweater over top and the skirt is incredibly useful and easy to wear. You can also add a blazer over top and a scarf. Or, go with your new vegan leather jacket. I especially like this for you because it is flattering for your figure (draws attention to your shoulders) and highlights your waist. Simultaneously, it's a little racy, but still totally functional for everyday life. Dress it up with colored heels or dress it down with casual boots. Plus, it's on sale and ASOS offers free shipping.
I know it's super crazy. But, I'm doing it! The right handbag is functional for your life, yet still makes you feel put together when you add it to your outfit. The perfect handbag can also be worn everyday is reasonably priced AND gets you lots of compliments. In my mind, this is the bag for you. The blue is interesting, but still super practical. Pair it with- everything. Add the teal coat above to any of your new outfits- red pants or dress? (yes!), forest green velvet pants? (yes!), black vegan leather jacket and trousers or jeans (absolutely!). Plus, it corresponds nicely with grey, black, brown or even red shoes without being too matchy-matchy. The size is just right for storing a family/kid survival kit (as any mom needs) and your own items, too!
As you can see, the focus of this wish list is to help fill in any gaps in your wardrobe after our recent shopping excursion. If you decide to subscribe to wish lists in the future, I'm happy to recommend items based on current needs/ wants or whims. For example, "something to go with these boots" or "a dress for an upcoming event," and so on. As always, feel free to reach out with any additional thoughts or questions. Happy Holidays!
