Wishlist for Erika M., December, 2013
Urban, professional, edgy, sophisticated
Welcome to monthly wish lists! I'm seeing items for you everywhere so I'm adding a few extras in this month. Also, in the future, if you have requests from month to month, just let me know. To view the personal profile associated with this Wishlist, click here.
We're starting with the crazy splurge item. But, I'm obsessed with the idea of this dress for you. It's a classic silhouette that is sure to be in your closet for several years and with the massive cut in price, the investment pays off quickly. The cut is really flattering for you and it's easy to wear- no tugging at straps or adjusting things throughout the night. The navy is unexpected and sophisticated. Wear it with heels and simple jewelry or rock it with your brown Frye boots and a sweater for a more casual affair. Love.
This one is a freebie since I mentioned it on my blog. (I won't include things on your wish list that are on the blog and count them in your total recommendations.) But, it would be crazy cool and functional for you. I know. I have it:) The fabric is super soft polyester so no ironing needed. The print is modern and interesting and happens to match nearly everything. The pleats balance out your frame while still showing off your waist AND it has pockets. Hooray! Wear it with a t-shirt tucked in or a cropped sweater. The most important thing is to wear something that is not baggy on top. Otherwise, you are good to go. If you wear a longer cardigan over it, just make sure to wear a slim fitting shirt underneath with the cardigan open. It would look great with ankle boots and tights or knee high boots. Appropriate for work, but still very memorable and edgy.
I'm all about Topshop and Nordstrom for you this month. This shapeless shift is great for your figure and I like the idea of adding this style of dress to your wardrobe for more variety. It's available in several colors. I chose the green for you because it would look great with your skin tone. It's bold but can easily pair with a wide variety of pieces you already own. It's also a great canvas for beautiful jewelry which I expect we'll be focusing more on throughout the year. You can wear it with leggings or opaque tights in the colder months then easily take it into Spring with wedge heels or the metallic flat sandals you like so much. The crepe is dressier than a jersey and more flattering as it doesn't hug your frame. Ideally, you'll wear this with a scarf, cardigan or an open jacket. It won't lay as well with something over the top (like a v neck sweater or buttoned tailored jacket.) It would also look awesome with your Kelsey Dagger bag for a nice contrast.
Intriguing, modern, hand-made in America and effortlessly goes with EVERYTHING. Plus, it draws attention to your wrists, which are lovely:) I can see you wearing this almost every day. You might also enjoy the other pieces at Velouria in Ballard. If you visit, let the know I sent you. I love them and the pieces in that store. Enough said.
On a recent shopping trip with a client, I saw this and immediately thought of you. Plus, it's 60% off right now! Woah. When zipped, it's asymmetrical, so it has a modern edge. It's challenging to see in the photo, but it is light weight and intended to be worn as a suit jacket, rather than a replacement for your cold weather leather jacket. It would be a really great way to tie in skirts and pants that you have difficulty matching. Plus, it is a nice alternative to a more conservative blazer. Edgy, urban, professional. Go.
This dress would look fantastic on you. It's interesting, yet not too interesting. It's also available in multiple colors. The blue would look incredible with your eyes. You'll want to pair it with leggings or opaque tights as it is pretty short. So, you can wear it more like a tunic than a dress for work. Alternatively, add a longer cardigan over it to add length. The sleeves make this even more practical as it can be worn without something over it or as a layering piece. If you add a scarf and a jacket, it will look like a completely different dress (or even just a skirt). Alternatively, wear a maxi skirt over it- yup, over it- to turn the top half into a shirt. This could be done with the photorealistic skirt above. Regardless, options abound!
This is also available in gold. I love how this is heavier than the bracelet above and adds an urban edge to any outfit. Again, it will pair easily with virtually anything -- from t-shirts to cocktail dresses and everything in between. Adding an interesting accessory elevates the entire outfit with 1/2 a second of effort. Ideal. Plus, it isn't too over the top dressy so it can go from a meeting with the crew to an elected official.
And finally, the beloved Frye boots. These are going to be a go to for sure. You can wear them over the knee for a more sophisticated look and slouched for a more casual approach. The dip in the back elongates your legs and the color draws attention to your lower half.
Because they are Fryes, they'll last forever and elevate the most casual and inexpensive outfits. Between these and the Kelsi Dagger bag, basic leggings, a t-shirt and a cardigan will feel put together. Add either a necklace, bracelet or scarf and you are good to go for Sunday brunch, a night out with your husband and everything in between.
These are the super awesome leggings I was wearing the day we took your outfit photos. I know you liked them and they are affordable, comfortable and flattering. Plus, the seem down the leg elongates, which is glorious. They have back pockets and can be worn as pants.
Ah- ha! I had seen something like this for you at Nordstrom, but when I went back it was gone. Even better, this one is substantially less expensive. Crazy comfortable, functional and flattering, this jersey dress/ shirt can be worn with leggings or tights and boots. Add a long cardigan and a scarf and you are ready for a sophisticated brunch. Or, rock it as a skirt by adding a crew neck or v-neck sweater over the top and adding a blazer. Easy.
Oh my goodness! I just saw this and HAD to add it to your wish list. It's on crazy sale. Woot! Plus, it's the military inspired coat that is meant for you -- belted at the waist, a power color, edgy but professional. And, a great brand. Yes!
My plan for your next wish list is to focus more on pants. Let me know if you have other ideas or thoughts. Also, if you decide to purchase any of the items listed above, please start with the link on this page:) I'm excited to create these for you monthly and want to ensure they are always inspiring and useful. Also, I hope that your personal style plan is a helpful reference as you build a wardrobe that is reflective of your style: sophisticated, edgy, urban and professional.
