Wishlist for Erika M., June, 2014
Urban, professional, edgy, sophisticated
Your requests this month: jeans, a cool ring and cheap wardrobe updates. And so it begins!
First up, a tunic length white vest. Vests are all the rage right now and I'm LOVING the idea of you in a white tailored vest that can be paired to make it a little more urban. This one is super affordable to give you a chance to try out the trend without breaking the bank. I like the belt to show off your waistline, but you can also wear it open. Try it now with a tank and in the winter add long sleeves and a scarf. This would be great with leather skinnies, tapered pants or jeans. Add your Fryes or your moto boots and you are good to go.
Rings, rings, rings. Layering jewelry is very current and very true to your style. As you don't wear many bracelets, I like the idea of you layering simple rings. The set below gives you the freedom to mix and match as you see fit from day to day. These are super affordable and you can upgrade if you think it's necessary as time goes on. Silver is so you, so I'm sticking with it for easy pairing.
I like these because they have that extra urban flare. Even if you start with a plain tee and jeans, these rings give your ensemble the more interesting, daring touch that works well for you. They feel young, but not inappropriate. Again, crazy good deal.
Because we've upped your style game, I wanted to make sure you had a higher quality option. I can see you using this everyday as it easily blends with any metal. It's interesting, but not too bold. It's nice to give you the freedom to play with other metals.
Finally, here's something much more unique. I think you might like visiting the Belltown boutique. The owner makes the jewelry that she also sells on Etsy. Unique, local, edgy and easy to pair, I could see you rocking this one when you are feeling a bit more daring.
I'm a big fan of this jacket for you and now that it's on sale, I'm officially recommending it. The zippers on the hips are great for your shape and since the lapels are vertical with no closure, it should accommodate your bust without feeling too big. It's true that lighter colors or prints are better for your lower half. However, this looks great next to your face and can be easily paired with something eye catching below. Plus, this jacket (and the vest above) are nice pieces for warm weather than are edgy and still very appropriate for work.
Jeans! You have a few options here and I varied the price points, as well. You love quality, but you also love a good deal So, here's a balance of the two with attention to the current trends and what works well for your figure. I'm not sure if you'll feel the ripped jeans trend works for you. I think it does because it's current, edgy, shows off your bottom half and can be paired with expensive feeling items on top to keep the look elevated. Plus, great shoes go a long way. This brand is crazy affordable at Nordstrom. See what you think:)
If you are feeling like investing, I'm a big fan of the light wash, cream or white jeans for you. These are eye catching, have a great fit and the quality is certainly there. Cuffing them works great in warm weather and into the colder months.
You can totally wear boyfriend jeans and the light wash denim trend is awesome on you, as well. This are from your very own All Saints. They are about as high as you should go. I do really like the idea of the ankle boot with them in the colder months, as well. Add one of your longer drapey sweaters and you are sophisticated, urban and showing off all your best assets.
These are cool and they are on sale. Plus, I thought you might like NastyGal. The site has great deals and was started by a now 30 year old woman. Also, now filthy rich and with a book out. You can run races in these bad boys and still show off your urban side. It's the summer version of motorcycle boots. Add in the raffia for a natural balance. Magic.
Good stuff all around. This month I focused on a few current trends that will last through the coming seasons. There's a lot of 80's inspired items (light denim, vests, ripped jeans, tapered pants, cut offs) that all work well for you. Now, you get to choose if they are of interest.
