I have been giving an incredible amount of thought to our conversations about your wishlist. You requested a uniform that you could wear each day, eliminating the time to ponder each day's ensemble. I believe your words were, "the same pieces in several colors." I love the idea of the simplicity of this approach, especially when you travel. However, the best part about a uniform is when you are the only one who realizes that you wear one. With that in mind, your uniform will actually be a combination of different pieces in the same color palette. Each piece can mix and match with the others, so the simplicity is still there. But, you'll have more variety with fit and creativity of expression when you want it. I'll explain more as we go.
First off, the dress! You love dresses, staying warm and not showing your arms while you teach and/or speak. This dress accomplishes so much, it's sure to become a go-to. The fit is flattering with the v neck you adore, plus the zippers at the waist show off your slim mid section. The length is appropriate for any audience, as is the color. Plus, blue shows up much better on video than navy, so this works for any occasion. Add your black, animal print or the soon to be suggested burgundy heels to seal the deal. If you are still cold, you can toss any blazer on this list over top. I especially like the navy, black or grey options. You can also layer a long cardigan over top for a more relaxed look. Feel free to belt it to show off your waist or leave it open. The long navy cardigan on this list works well. And, of course, you know that you can transform this dress into a skirt by tossing a pullover over top. A black option works well.
Onto separates! I'm offering up two options. go with whichever appeals to you more. The Ann Taylor option is petite and has a faux tuck so that you can pair it effortlessly with skirts, pants or over dresses without wondering what to do with the bottom. Plus, the fabric is lovely for your skin. The Topshop option is also flattering for your frame and will work with all the same pieces. You can layer a seamless cami underneath (navy or black to fade away or a color to pop on date night). I like the Topshop option because the polyester blend means it will likely be highly wrinkle resistant for travel. And, it's hip, just like you.
You can never go wrong with a good blazer and this charcoal option is a dream. Having just purchased a charcoal coat, this blazer will be even easier to work with. I love it with culottes, skirts, full length trousers or over dresses. Try it with an oxford shirt underneath, a more feminine option or a sweater. And the collar up exposes an interesting navy detail. Grey is lovely with all of the colors on this list: burgundy, navy, cream, dark green, light blue, etc. so you can mix and match this with any pieces included here. Plus, it's a nice way to make any existing pieces that are bold on top more subdued to be more flattering for your frame. Love this with a tee, jeans and your oxfords, as well. You can look professional and put together regardless of the location or occasion.
When you came out in the culottes and jacket I just wanted to die. It was SO good! That's the look we are replicating time and time again on this list. Although, the goal is to keep it feeling fresh and authentic to you. Plus, it's important to pay close attention to cost as you continue to grow your business. These burgundy culottes from Zara are crazy affordable and will coordinate effortlessly (believe it!) with this entire list. Any navy, grey, cream, black options up top work with it. Technically, you can also do forest green with these pants, but you may not feel comfortable. Try it and see:) These are also ideal with your burgundy oxfords and your burgundy heels listed below. One less component to figure out when putting together your outfit. Yes, I asked you to avoid wearing pants and shoes the same color. However, if you are rocking these culottes, you can feel free to go for it. The leg is wide and they show skin at the ankle, so your frame will be balanced out. Love! And the price is certainly right.
All this talk about these shoes means I need to show them to you STAT. It's all Clarks all the time for you and these are exceptionally flattering for your frame. Plus, they work effortlessly with the other pieces in your collection. When packing, you can bring your oxfords and wear these (or vice versa). All of your pieces will work with either shoe and your outfits won't seem ho hum. You have options for dressy or more casual and you can change your approach at the last minute if the vibe is not what you had expected. Plus, with either shoe you can run all over town without worrying about your feet.
I am placing this blue below the burgundy shoe to illustrate that they work quite nicely together. This top is a lovely shade for the days when you may be recorded and the v neck is especially flattering. Because this is a light color, layer darker options over top to stay warm: the grey blazer, navy cardigan, navy blazer or your existing black Tahari jacket. Naturally, your charcoal coat seals the deal. In this case, I am highlighting this piece with new black culottes. I'll explain more in a moment. The significance is that with a wide leg and skin showing, a light color on top can work. Also, this top is lovely with the burgundy pants and black shoes. Or opt for grey pants and any of your shoes. A professional look for teaching, presenting or just hitting the office.
Okay I know you already have a pair of black culottes. However, these are wrinkle free! Believe it! They are ideal for travel and with any of the tops on this list and a blazer or cardigan, this is a home run for presenting. The price is unbelievable, too. I'll just leave you with the photo to reinforce the purchase. (That being said, if your current pair are wrinkle free, go ahead and pass.)
A cross body bag is just right for you as it balances your frame. And, your handbag is a place for you to feature unexpected elements. It's also important that you can locate it easily in a crowded room or within a larger bag. This cross body from Paper Thinks is made from recycled leather. I love this company. This bag is available in several colors and they carry other office products, as well. I feel like this is a great talking point that aligns with your brand and your values, so when folks ask you about it (which they will) it has a nice story. Made in the USA. You can also tuck the straps inside and use this as a clutch for evening affairs. The color will work with your pieces and again, it's easy to find.
Success lies in pieces that are both functional for your lifestyle and fashionable for you. A small bag (like the option above) is ideal for running around town, grabbing a coffee or an evening out. A larger bag, like the one below exists to hold an array of pieces without bringing down your outfit. It's important that this larger bag can also hold your smaller bag, making life that much easier.
Bracelets and rings balance out your frame and are flattering for your shape. This leather cuff was handmade in Ghana with a story about the maker on the site. It's a lovely talking point that aligns with your values AND it looks great with your pieces. Metallic options can produce a glare during filming and I don't want you to have to think about your jewelry when you should be focused on your presentation. With this in mind, I'm limiting suggestions to pieces made of wood or leather. They also don't make noise as you move, which is important and won't hit a mike in the rare occasion that you might wear one. You don't need to have teal in your outfit for this to work. It can simply be an accent piece.
I'm obsessed with this navy blazer. The perfect blend of dressy and casual, it is the ideal alternative to a standard suit jacket. Again, it works with the entire list, so it's easy to pair. Plus, it is a nice alternative to a standard black blazer and one that is flattering for your body type and your skin tone. How about trying it with the pants below?! Woot! It also works effortlessly with the burgundy, grey or black culottes. Of course, it's great with all of the skirts on the list, as well or layered over the two dresses. Options abound.
Another faux wrap shirt that minimizes your shoulders and your stomach. This light grey works well for photos and filming plus the short sleeves mean you can take your jacket or sweater off while teaching should you become hot. I love the idea of an outfit that is comprised solely of various shades of grey. Go for 50 if you dare:) This top with grey culottes and the grey jacket works beautifully. Feel free to add your burgundy shoes (oxfords or heels) or your black heels to seal the deal. Alternatively, this is a lovely layering piece that works with all the options on this list and the cut ensures you can tuck it in or leave it out while maintaining a professional and relaxed look.
Up for some layering? This sweater top can be worn solo or layered over another top such as the one above or an oxford shirt with the collar exposed. Then, throw a blazer over top, if you'd like. This cut is super flattering for you and this sweater travels well. Plus, it works effortlessly with any of the pieces on this list and is a nice, cozy yet still sophisticated choice for you. And it's made in a fabric that works for your skin.
I considered adding a full length pant to this list, but decided against it in the end. Why? Well, because of the way your face lit up with you put on those culottes with the blazer. They are modern, effortless and show confidence. Yes, there will be a time when you are done with the culottes, but for now, you have plenty of full length dress pants in your closet when you need them. These are becoming a signature piece for you. Love this charcoal grey pair with all the blazers on the list. Feel free to mix and match with the tops and the sweaters with abandon. Also, when you rock this with your new winter coat, the pairing will elongate your frame. Your burgundy oxfords will pull the entire look together and show off your effortless style while still secretly rocking your uniform.
Another super amazing and affordable Fair Trade option that is good for the world, your brand and your style. The neutral color means it works with everything, won't glare in photos and has a lovely story.
You love a good v neck for every day wear. Avoiding cashmere and wool, I landed on this comfortable linen option from Eileen Fisher. Her fabrics are oh so good and the cut of this sweater at the hips is flattering for you. Layer a soft top underneath or a stiff option such as the oxford. Alternatively, layer a jacket over top and add culottes or a skirt. I love this with the grey suede jacket below or any of the blazers on this list. Imagine how fantastic this will look with your new coat and the burgundy culottes plus oxfords!
We discussed a vegan leather jacket or some version of that for date nights, going out and other occasions where you might want to go outside of the box a bit. When I saw this Free People suede jacket, I immediately thought of you. Instead of any of the blazers on the list, just toss this on for a look that is a little more edgy/ earthy/ sexy. You know how to balance out your frame with this lighter jacket, so I'll leave you to it. Know that with jeans, you'll want an eye-catching shoe (burgundy oxfords, for example) and with culottes, you'll just look amazing. Try it over dresses and with skirts. Even a basic v neck tee underneath or any of the pullover sweaters on this list work well.
Best shirt ever.
A light colored pair of wide leg pants is one of the most sophisticated options around. For your style right now, culottes are the way to go. Because you travel internationally, these are sure to get lots of action. Remember, you can also wear them in cold weather by pairing them with cold weather pieces like in the Zara photo. I'm offering up to options so you can let your desire and budget decide which pair is best for you.
I like options and this is another choice for your bag. High quality Italian leather, this messenger style cross body is sure to travel the world with you. Again, it is a color that works with your wardrobe and is easy to find in a crowded room or airport. It's flattering for your frame and functional for your life.
It is not easy to find a wrinkle free, petite oxford in the perfect shade of blue for you and filming. This is it so don't let it pass you by. If the fit is not quite right, it's better to order up and have the tailor adjust this piece. It's sure to be a staple for years if the fit is there. Classic, excellent for layering and great for a more conservative audience.
And you thought I was only going to offer up culottes?! This skirt is so extraordinary, I left it until near the end. The photo doesn't do it justice. Conservative and crazy functional this a-line option is flattering for your frame. Plus, like a great camel coat, it works with everything. That means all the tops on this list can be paired up with this skirt. Make it modern with your unexpected accents. This is also lovely with light colored tops and jackets. So, if you are struggling with what to do with those to balance out your frame, this skirt is the answer. Feel free to wear it with black or navy tights in the winter.
I know we discussed getting you a new black cardigan. In the end, I'm suggesting a navy option instead. This long sweater is flattering for your frame, cozy and the navy makes it a little more sophisticated than black. Plus, it will work better for video. Wear it buttoned (as in the photo) or leave it open. Either approach will flatter your frame. This is lovely with all the culottes and skirts on this list. You can also wear it with jeans and your oxfords. Or, try it over the dress below.
Both dresses on this list are intended to perform as entire outfits. The idea is that when packing or grabbing a last minute something, we want options that are truly one stop shops. Both dresses fit the bill. With sleeves, you can avoid a jacket or needing to layer. This option is super flattering for your frame, feminine without being girly and totally appropriate up top. Plus, it has pockets, which make your life a whole lot easier. It's available in several colors. I recommend light blue because it's flattering on you and works well for photos or video. Plus you can layer any of the blazers over top. You should feel free to choose whatever color speaks to you. And, if the fit isn't perfect, let's get it tailored so it goes from uneventful to smashing. Did I mention that the fabric should travel well? :)
Free Trade! You won't need all of these, but options are fun. Choose what speaks to you as they all work effortlessly with the entire collection.
Because you found the charcoal coat, you may not have a desire for another option. If you do, this one is lovely, flattering, timeless and a decent price. Full disclosure: I sent it to Kore, too:)
You love a good v-neck sweater, so I want to ensure you are thrilled with your selection. This petite number has buttons on the sleeve that draw attention to your hands. It's a fabric that is friendly to your body and the price is unbelievable, so there's that.
These are AMAZING. Truly.
Yes, there's an oxford shirt earlier on this list. This, however is an entirely different ball game. This tunic can be used with leggings to mimic a dress. Add the long navy cardigan and boots, oxfords or heels to make a sophisticated outfit. It's also wrinkle free! Woot! Great for travel days.
This top is so lovely in either color, so I'm including both. The multiple layers on the bottom elongate your torso and are flattering for your frame. The deep v neck shows off your skin while still being totally appropriate. It's a great layering piece. Love it under blazers, with cardigans and of course, with the suede jacket. It can be worn out or tucked it. Use it with the skirts on the list and/or culottes. Cream looks nice in photos and video.
I couldn't help myself. Normally, I would not recommend a light colored jacket. But, because you are photographed frequently, I want to give you the option to wear light colors, too. This textured jacket is sophisticated and shows confidence. It can be dressed up or down and is lovely with a top of the same color underneath. Try it with any of the culottes on the list to balance out your frame or the camel skirt. Big fan. And, of course, it's glorious with the skirt below. Hello date night!
I know this is a splurge item, but I'm going to recommend it anyway. You can't stop me:) How amazing will this look on you? SO amazing! The cut, the color, the texture, the whole thing works and pairs easily the vast majority of this list. The forest green top would not be ideal, but otherwise, everything works. When you are going out and want to amp things up, this is the way to do it. Pair it with heels or boots for maximum impact. I like it with the cream jacket and top of the same color with nude, brown, navy or black shoes.
Holy cow! I can't wait to see what you think of your new "uniform." Modern, approachable, sophisticated with elements of surprise AND some nods to your personal values. Happy birthday!
