Effortless, Functional, Understated
(Because this is an actual client wish list, many of the items may be no longer available for purchase.)
Based on your closet edit and our conversations about your current needs, the pieces in your wish list work together to create a new wardrobe that communicates your personal style: effortless, comfortable, subtle and timeless. Because you are headed back to work shortly and are still breastfeeding, everything is easy access for pumping and/or feeding the baby. As you've requested, I've emphasized bottoms and stayed true to your winter color palette. Finally, because your body is changing over the next year, I suggested only a few items that are real investment pieces. At this point, we're focusing on you looking and feeling great in items that don't break the bank and are functional for your lifestyle. When you find pieces that you love, you can purchase the higher quality version. Here we go!
As we discussed, the wrap dress is a dream for you right now and into the future. It's easy access for feeding and/or pumping and it is adjustable as your body changes. I love this deep purple, one of your favorite colors, because it can also be paired easily with a wide array of items. Try a sweater or your denim jacket over top. Or wear it solo thanks to the sleeves.
The perfect wedges for a new mom who works in the outdoor clothing industry :) Functional and still stylish, they can be paired with virtually anything. Because of the platform, you will increase your height while still having the ability to run around without changing shoes. Try them with dresses, pants, ankle pants and even shorts. The options are endless and the color elongates your legs. Interesting without making a bold statement.
What can be more functional than a chambray dress right now? A chambray wrap dress. Again, easy to adjust size-wise as your figure changes and effortless to pair. The shirt dress is a classic that can be worn effortlessly in the fall with boots or warmer weather with sandals. Always work appropriate without being stuffy. The sleeves allow you to go without layering in warmer weather. Alternatively, try a scarf to increase your body temperature without a sweater. You have a number of unusual belts. This is the perfect canvas for any of those. Simply replace the belt with one of your favorites and add nude shoes. Go.
This shapeless shift with an all over print is flattering for your body shape. The color and print remind me so much of you and I can see you using this repeatedly over the next few months. Try it with flat sandals or dress it up with wedges. While it isn't subtle, it is true to your love of red and interesting prints. Add your denim jacket or a cardigan to tone it down, if you desire. As a petite, the length should be perfect.
You had an array of tops with crochet or embellishment of some sort. The detail near your face draws the eye up which is flattering for your figure. The timeless style and crochet mean that you can keep it in your closet year after year and still feel confident that it is on trend. Pair it with pants, shorts, a skirt, you name it. It's easy. And, of course, the top can easily lift up for feeding. tuck it in to a high waisted skirt or leave it untucked for pants/shorts/ a skirt that are tailored. Perfect with jeans or colored pants.
Love! Love! Love! This eyelet top is in the deep purple that you love, although other colors are also available. Pairing it with the deep purple skirt further down on the list will elongate your frame, making you appear taller. Casual enough to wear with shorts or jeans and yet dressy enough for you to wear to the office, this will be in heavy rotation. Feel comfortable pairing with with a different color on the bottom. The eyelet adds that extra visual interest on top.
Seriously, yes. Petite ankle pants that are dressy and professional for work, but can also be washed. Indeed. If the fit works for you, feel confident ordering the same style again and again online. The Limited has only a few styles of pants and simply changes the visual design or fabric each season, making it easy to order what works for your body. Keep them appropriate for your office by pairing with any of the casual tops on the list. Totally put together and still comfortable. The perfect balance. I vote for navy, but you can't go wrong with any of the color choices.
It's true you love jewelry and prefer to stick with subtle and silver. I selected this necklace because of the interesting design that draws the eye up. It can be paired with anything, making it a great gateway into more jewelry. Plus, it adds a little something extra to dress up your outfit for work or going out. I have a feeling you'll start buying more jewelry of your own and have a pretty good sense of that, so I'm suggesting this one to get you moving in the right direction.
I am totally obsessed with these shoes for you. Campers, which you already own and love. Dark purple- again love. Wedges- same. And most importantly, interesting shoes that make you feel pretty. They are functional (see rubber sole) and sure to receive compliments. But, they can be toned down a bit with the right outfit. This color can easily be paired with anything from the red floral dress to dress pants for the office and everything in between. A basic casual top and skirt will be elevated with these shoes. Try them with the chambray dress and a belt of another color. Or, your black skinnies and the striped J Crew tee. Or, the loose knit sweater with a fuchsia or red tank underneath. Options abound. It's true they draw attention to your feet, but they are fun and you can balance that out with something interesting up top. And, because they are Campers- they say effortless, functional and cool, which you are.
So practical, so polished and so perfect in petite sizes. The bootcut is super flattering for your body shape, balancing your frame. Wash them in the washing machine. Effortless. I like the light grey for spring and summer, but any color will do. Pair them with any top on this list. Feel free to add your denim jacket to make the outfit more casual. I also like these with any of the colored shoes you already own. Balance those with an attention-getting shirt on top, such as the striped tee below. The stretch offers some flexibility with any weight fluctuation. It's unlikely you'll want to purchase all the pants I'm suggesting. I want to ensure you have options.
Replacing your striped top with a new version, you already know how practical this baby can be. Love it under a cardigan, crew neck, v-neck or jacket. It's a wonderful way to balance any attention-getting piece you may opt for on the bottom. Specifically, trying a bold colored skirt or pants? Pair with this tee. Or, a floral skirt can also make this pop. Tailored, classic, timeless and flattering for you.
I see sweaters being an easy way for you to have items that fit and are easy to pair. Try this one with a bold tank top underneath to draw attention upward. Casual enough for your office and the weekend, but dressy enough to be paired with dress pants or a skirt. You can never go wrong with navy. Alternatively, try it over a dress. The knit allows the print and color of the dress to show through, adding visual interest on top. I like it with the red floral dress listed earlier and the TOMS platform wedges.
So exciting! These are the perfect replacement for your old pair. And, because they are shorter they will be even more flattering for your petite frame. Mix and match with bold solid tops or the soft embroidered or eyelet tops shown earlier. Seersucker is indeed timeless.
You requested a new pair of black flats. As an alternative to ballet flats, I'm suggesting these loafers. It's a risk, but ballet flats are easy to find if they are more appealing to you. The loafer is both current and classic. In addition to having the ability to wear these for a long period of time, they make any outfit look more put together. The stitching and colored sole make them feel unique without being overwhelming and the Camper brand is just cool. So there's that. Love them with pants and shorts. For skirts, they are best with something tailored. They'd also be great with your black skinnies.
According to the website, this is red, which I love for you. If it is in fact, salmon, it doesn't have the same appeal. The dolman sleeve is great for your body shape, balancing out your frame. And, what is more comfortable and effortless than a tee? Nothing. The cut shows off your waist while still hiding any tummy post-baby. Tuck it into a high waisted skirt or wear it out over pants or shorts. It stops at just the right place. Add the silver necklace and light grey pants and you are off to an important meeting at work. Try it with a casual skirt and sandals and you are set for everyday wear at home or the office.
You would totally wear these. So comfortable and yet not too baggy, fit is everything. I'm suggesting them because they offer lots of flexibility as your body changes and are still effortless and tailored. Affordable, they are best suited for warm weather and have an REI feel without being too REI. Try a fitted tee or a cropped sweater up top. Flat sandals or your TOMS wedges would both look put together and still effortless. It's best to pair with something attention-getting up top. The white embroidered top would be lovely, for instance.
Sure to become a go-to, this stretch mini is great for your petite frame, your triangle body shape and your abbreviated time to get ready to go. Plus, it's on sale and the quality at J Crew is lovely. The elastic offers lots of flexibility as your body changes. Tuck tops in or wear cropped sweaters for the most flattering look.
We discussed the joy of a maxi dress for new moms on the go and this one looks to be just right for your height. Affordable, easy to to throw on and almost as easy to pair with virtually everything. Yes. It is strapless. Do not be alarmed. Add a cardigan or your denim jacket to make it work appropriate. Or, put a sweater over the top. You'll find that this top is easy to pull down for feeding or pumping and the length allows you to sit on the floor, on the grass or wherever you may be for time with the family. Try your wedges or flat sandals in the summer. Ankle boots and a scarf can work in cold weather, too.
This skirt makes me so happy. The cut is tremendously flattering for your body, making your stomach look flat and minimizing below. The dark purple is one of your power colors and the texture makes it unique without being too bold. Dress it up or down with any of the tops on the list. Keep them tucked in if they would normally fall beyond the fitted portion. Crop sweaters would be great, as well. Wear it into the winter with tights and boots. Or add your denim jacket and a scarf for a layered effect.
Black bootleg dress pants in petite without side pockets sticking out. Done.
Yes! The horizontal stripe across the top works well with the chevron on the bottom to balance your frame. The petite sizing ensures that it fits nicely and the colors remind me of you. Plus, there are other print/ color choices if that is more appealing. The wrap dress is easy access for feeding, etc. and this changes with your body. Add tights and boots in the winter or sandals in the summer. Also great with your denim jacket and silver necklace.
This is fun. It has a zipper down the back and the fabric has an unexpected texture. Drawing attention to your top half to balance out your frame, this shape allows you to feed or pump easily. Try it with your skinny black pants, your seersucker shorts or over a jersey mini. It also coordinates nicely with the purple Campers.
Here's the jersey mini I was referring to. First off, it's $5! But, that's not why I'm suggesting it. It's effortless and comfortable. Try it over leggings as a quick fix if your top is too short. Or, simply wear it with a tee or a tank top. I like it with the eyelet top, dolman sleeve top or the white embroidered top. Wait a minute. I like it with everything. And, you will, too. It may feel a little racy at first because it is so fitted. This is why I'm suggesting a $5 version- in case it just isn't you. I think you'll find it feels like putting on sweats in the summer.
So useful, so sophisticated. This scarf is lightweight so that it is appropriate for the season, but also to ensure that it does not overwhelm your frame. The cream color is great next to your face an allows you dress up even the most casual outfit. Because you don't wear scarves a lot now, I opted for a very affordable option at Forever 21. If you find that it fits nicely into your wardrobe and you are wearing it regularly, I'd opt for something of a higher quality for the fall.
Useful. Interesting. Cute. Timeless. A great layering piece that plays well with others.
Flattering for your body shape and effortless all day. This dress allows you to be put together while still feeling like you are at home in your pajamas. Also available in red or navy. Any color is a great choice. Easy access for feeding, but so attractive that you'll wear it well after that phase is complete. Add your denim jacket or a cardigan. Especially cute with one of your pairs of colored flats.
Channeling your dark purple cords that you loved, these babies are super affordable and give you one more pair of skinnies that are more fun for spring. I like them with the Campers or your Vans.
Everybody needs a handbag. I'm suggesting 3 to give you some options. This envelope cross body is functional (hello hands free!) and petite to match your frame. The red coordinates easily with a wide array of items in your closet. Or, go for the black as a fall back. Very affordable.
Here's the other red option. Higher quality, larger and reversible, this bag from SkunkFunk is something unique that you won't see all around town. A company who focuses on sustainability, it's a nice talking point at work and allows you to add Ellis's extra outfits or bottle in your handbag leaving you sans diaper bag when you desire that option.
Everybody needs a basic tee. The V-neck is ideal for you and this green looks great with the seersucker shorts, the dark purple skirt and everything in between. Plus, because it is petite, it should fit very nicely.
I love this bag for you. It coordinates with everything. It's a classic design, unusual color and still stays true to your personal style. It's a little matchy matchy with the purple Campers, but otherwise, it is prefect with an array of your colored shoes, your Vans and the taupe TOMS.
We spend a great deal of time in our pajamas and they are often overlooked. You love polka dots and these are just as cozy as what you might be rocking right now. Because they are separates, they are easy for any late night feedings. And, because they are super cute, they are ideal for that first glance in the mirror each morning. Under $20? Indeed.
This pink is pretty bold, so I'm on the fence about whether or not it will appeal to you. I love it over a chambray shirt (as below) or the chambray dress listed earlier in the list. It's cropped so it should hit you in a flattering spot and make layering easy. Try it with the cream scarf in the colder months or with shorts in the summer. A great complement to either pair of the Campers.
It may not be the most exciting suggestion, but a black v-neck cardigan is a staple. This one is petite!
It's pricey, but it's glorious. In order for a tailored shirt to fit well, it's best to go with the petite. The must have item of the season is the chambray shirt. But, true to your aesthetic, the chambray shirt is also tailored, timeless, effortless and put-together. It is a great canvass for any interesting or more unique items that you'd like to integrate into your wardrobe. The pocket detail draws attention up and is flattering for your body type. The buttons ensure easy access. Success!
This is an add on, but I couldn't help myself. It's inevitable that you'll have a special event come along and I wanted to ensure you have an alternative to the dress you wore to our wedding six years ago. You deserve it. This is timeless and couldn't be more flattering for your body. It's petite, so it won't be too long and it's your power color- dark purple. The v-neck and fit and flare style balance out your frame and it can be dressed up or down depending on the appropriate dress for the occasion. It's on sale, too!
And there you have it. Thanks for the flexibility to provide a wish list rather than a shopping excursion. With all the extras needed during this time in your life, I'm confident that this will fit your needs better than one or two retailers could do in a few hours. Please let me know how it goes. My goal was to ensure that you had this list in ample time to order prior to going back to work. I'm happy to come out and coordinate outfits in late April or mid/ late May. I'd suggest May because it gives you more time to try things out for yourself. But, I'm always open.
Tailored, Effortless, Timeless, Comfortable and Subtle. That's you! Happy Shopping!
