Black at work, more "fun" options on vacation, our goal is to meld the two so that you are as excited to get dressed for Tuesday as you are for Saturday. Because you said you like a pop of color and are secretly harboring love for all things Southwestern and a little bit earthy, I'm going to push you toward that pop being a print rather than simply a bit of color. With special attention to your body shape and giving preference to Nordstrom per your request, the items below are intended to revamp your wardrobe in clothes that are quintessentially you.
You'll notice a few things are missing: jeans, ankle boots and jewelry (with the exception of this glorious necklace). I think you are solid on all three and I expect that when the major purge occurs, you'll be keeping what you have in those areas. I LOVED creating this list for you. I hope you find it equally inspiring.
This is so you. It's interesting and adds the final touch to any outfit to make everything come together. I love it with a blazer and a print maxi skirt or wear it with all black. It's the pop of something unique and interesting without adding the complexity of trying to match it. And, it will last for years. I could see you wearing this with jeans and a tank on the weekends. Options abound.
Merging your all black tailored professional self with your vacation loving, Dave Matthews Band self starts with incorporating some prints. I've chosen black and white here as a slower progression. Add a white blazer, wedge heels and bold earrings or a bracelet to take this to work. Or, pair it with a denim jacket (which I believe you already own), a scarf and sandals for an easy Saturday. This style halter maxi creates curves and shows off many of your best features.
So many white jackets to choose from and I know you already have one in your closet that isn't getting much action. This will quickly become a go-to piece because it pairs easily with almost everything on this list. Plus, it's on trend and tailored. The zippers add visual interest at you hips, making you appear curvier. And, few things are more tailored than a white jacket. All confidence all the time.
These DVFs elevate your outfit, regardless of the price of the other components. Translation: They are perfect when grabbing a fast fashion item to try out new trends. This color brown looks expensive and pairs well with coral, turquoise, etc. However, these are also available in black. So, the option is yours. Comfortable, not too loud and yet interesting, they add that special something to even the most basic of outfits. Plus, they'd look great with gold, which you are wearing more frequently lately.
Because we are just starting this scarf adventure and are heading into warmer weather, I'm recommending an affordable option from Nordstrom. As an alternative you could try a cashmere scarf. As we discussed, putting one of your power colors next to your face is a great way to make any color top work. Plus, layering scarves creates different areas of visual interest which is great for your body shape. This one will easily pair with quite a few pieces from skirts to dresses, jeans and everything in between. I'd recommend purchasing one in turquoise and one in black.
I know. It's straight up and down, which does not create curves. However, the print gives the illusion of curves and it's the magical combination of tailored, put together and interesting. Plus, it includes all your favorite colors, ensuring it will be easy to match and make you feel great when wearing it. Add a denim jacket, scarf and sandals for a more casual approach or layer on your gold bracelets with a blazer and wedges. I especially like that it can work well with black, brown or white accessories. Take it into the winter with black tights and ankle boots. Add a sweater over top to transform it into a skirt.
Rather than recommend a pair of wide legged white pants, I'm going to suggest these fancy pants. Here's why: They are current, super functional and create curves on your body. Showing off your ankles is always a good thing and these are more tailored, allowing you to channel your inner hippie with a print top or scarf. As an alternative to leggings, they are comfortable and mix and match easily. We can find a less expensive option, but I opted for the Theory pair because they'll become a go to for the warmer weather, so it's nice to have great quality. Plus, I expect lots of people will ask you where you got them, etc.
Compact, cross body and respectable brand. This is the everyday handbag for you. Seem impractical because of the color? Rest assured, this coordinates well with everything on your list and provides that pop of color you love so much.
Love this because the combination of the faux wrap style and the print creates lots of curves and various points of visual interest. I'm opting for a variety of lengths of skirts and dresses because I don't want you to feel like you are wearing the same silhouette every day. This one shows off your legs, which are one of your best assets. Dress it up with a tailored jacket and wedges or dress it down with flats. In the cold weather, pair it with brown boots and add a sweater over the top to make it function as a skirt. It would look fantastic and put-together with the brandy DVF wedges and gold jewelry. Somehow it manages to be both tailored and a bit boho.
This one makes me happy. Tailored and unique, leather is totally on trend and the blue gives it a wow factor, not to mention you love the color. Easy to pair with a fitted top and a cardigan or a sweater, as shown, you'll end up keeping this one in your closet for years and bringing it back depending on current styles. Wear it with boots now and into spring. It's also totally functional with higher boots when the weather changes. Try it with a fitted v-neck white t-shit and flat sandals for a more casual look.
Subtle but interesting, this solid top can be easily paired with skirts, jeans, trousers, you name it. But, the added detail at the top adds visual interest, helping to create curves. You can tuck it in with a high wasted skirt or leave it out with jeans or trousers. It's a flexible piece that enables the creation of several other outfits. I especially like it with the print straight skirt options or tapered pants.
Lace is so on trend and I love that this mimics a print without actually being one. Try it with jeans or mix and match with dressier trousers or skirts. It also comes in Olympus Turquoise, another of your favs. The 3/4 length sleeves are flattering and they make it likely that you won't need a sweater or blazer as the weather warms up. When you are feeling more adventurous, try it with the print tapered pants listed below. Or, go for the white tapered trousers above for a polished, tailored and still very comfortable look. Add long gold necklaces or bracelets to the mix to finish things off. When you are looking for mostly black but a pop of color, this is another great option. Simply layer it below a black blazer.
Because of your love for black as a go-to and the functionality of maxi dresses, this one is an easy and put-together look for any day of the week. Add your turquoise scarf or bold earrings for a pop of color. Because of the pattern and belt, it also creates curves effortlessly. Or put a v-neck black sweater over the top, add a blazer and it has been transformed into a skirt. Relaxed and polished. Go!
Sure, they are bold. But, they are also tailored, put-together and interesting. Not to mention that they'd look incredible paired with coral, turquoise, chocolate brown or black. Wait a minute! That means they are crazy functional, too. Indeed. Add a basic black top and a tailored jacket. Or, try the coral lace top from above with a black jacket. Go another direction with a chambray shirt and flat sandals. Dress them up or dress them down. Either way you are on trend and very comfortable.
Magic happens when this blazer enters the picture. It may seem a bit uneventful, but it is the perfect piece to make your other more interesting components pop. Wear it with the tapered print trousers above and a black top. Or, wear it over the olive green leather tank below and a print skirt. Spring, tailored, put-together and effortless, it completes the picture.
When you wear this beauty, you'll want to show off your waist, creating curves. Imagine it with jeans and flat sandals. Super hot! Or take it to the office with the maxi below and gold jewelry. With white trousers, a black tailored jacket and black wedge heels, you are at the height of sophistication and still up for any activity. Another keeper, for sure.
Effortless style. You can sit on the floor with the kids or lead a meeting at the office. Maxis like these feel like you are wearing your pajamas all day and yet you look put together and polished. I love this color for you as it pairs easily with all your other pieces. Try it with a chambray shirt, DVF wedges and the necklace listed at the top of your wish list. Or, Use the tailored white or khaki jacket with a basic top. Try a black gathered jersey tee (coming up on your list) and a denim jacket. The options are endless.
You! You! You! Sure, it is loose fitting. But a belt or tucking it in will solve that. I love the idea of this with shorter shorts. (You'll see a pair further down on your list.) Or, tuck it into a higher waisted skirt and add your wedges. It will look smashing with gold jewelry and because of the fit can be tossed on over a dress to transform it into a skirt. Add a belt to define your waist. The cork belt is ideal with piece.
Every wardrobe needs basic tanks. Enough said. (I also like the Old Navy version.)
Start with tailored and add a dash of nature in the form of a print and you are all set. I can't get enough of dresses with sleeves because you can often avoid layering all together. That means you look even more polished and can avoid having to think about your outfit first thing in the morning. The three quarter length sleeves are flattering for you. Feel free to add a blazer or a cardigan. This is another canvass for you to express your personal style with your jewelry. Alternatively, add a black v-neck sweater over the top to turn this dress into a skirt. In the winter, this is lovely with opaque tights and boots. Finally, it's mighty affordable.
Every day. Easy. Flattering. Affordable and matches everything. Go.
I've included two wrap dresses that are similar because one is black (which you love) and the other is green (hello bold!) which is where we are headed. But, let's be honest. Some days you just want to wear all black. Here's how to do it easily, without spending too much and still looking tailored, put-together and interesting. And, this shows off your figure while minimizing your stomach which makes you feel free.
I keep mentioning blazers. In fact I only include one cardigan in this collection. After all, layering is a must in our climate and a cardigan can quickly take you into frumpy-town. Yes, that is a place. I've selected this for you because it has multiple interesting elements and yet it is still a basic, functional black blazer. The zippers draw attention to your hips and the faux leather sleeves are both current and draw attention to your lovely arms. Curves! Curves! Curves! Finally, the zippers incorporate your metal jewelry- put-together without being too matchy matchy.
Shorts! You like them shorter and they look great on you. Add a tailored jacket and wedges to dress things up. Or, try the coral lace top and flat sandals for tailored and still easy approach. Really, you can't go wrong.
It's not very exciting, but it's essential: the black cardigan. It keeps you warm and in this case, it protects you from UV rays. How cool is that? Uniqlo cardigans and sweaters hold up very well and are mighty affordable. It's a nice way to balance out the investment pieces. Plus, a black cardigan is something you replace often whether you spend $40 or $300. So, why not make a smart choice going into the purchase? This one can be long, drapy and sophisticated. Or, it can be frumpy. So, proper styling will be key.
Yes! And they are on sale! Interesting but not crazy town. Easy to match and comfortable. These wedges from Michael Kors are sure to get complimented as often as your DVs. I especially like the wooden platform because it balances the earthy side of you with the sophisticated tailored you.
Colors you love with fabric that is easy to care for, this dress is easy to move in and still looks great. A weekend essential, add some gold bracelets and your wedge heels to elevate the look. A denim jacket would be a natural pairing, as well. Of course, this can also head into the office with a cardigan or blazer.
So incredibly useful. Basic but not boring, this cotton tee from Theory coordinates well with everything and makes you look and feel more put together when you are really just rocking a t-shirt.
Now this is where the current you comes into the picture. I think it's essential that we give you some black options that make you look and feel incredible. This asymmetrical Vera Wang dress is so flattering for your body type adding visual interest at the neck, your waist and showing off your arms and legs. Add colored jewelry or your turquoise circle scarf for a pop of color. Try it in the winter with your wedge booties and tights or in the warmer weather with wedges and a white or khaki blazer. Again, a canvass that you can style in whatever way works for you without having to think too much about it.
Yes and yes! A belt is the quickest way to make an outfit feel more tailored and cork is a great way to channel your earthier side without getting carried away. Try this with jeans and the coral lace top and the white jacket. Or over a dress. It's neutral and still eye-catching which defines your waist even more. Plus, the skinnier belts are proportionate with your frame, which is ideal.
Basic, easy, affordable and bam- tailored, put-together and eye-catching. This dress is flattering for your body and an effortless go-to when you are running late in the morning. Try a chambray shirt or black v-neck sweater over top to convert the dress to a skirt. A blazer keeps this professional and put-together.
I added this one because I like the idea of offering some variation and balance in your wardrobe. Keep things interesting by wearing different silhouettes and colors each day while still being strategic. The cowl neck adds visual interest at the neck and the light grey seam draws the eye down. In the cooler months it is easy to add a cardigan or blazer to complete the look. It's cozy, like leggings:)
It's as if these were made just for you. You like tight jeans and this keeps that theme going. Super flattering, super fitting and super functional. These faux leather skinny pants allow you the ease of jeans, while keeping things unpredictable. Black leather and vegan leather is certainly on trend. However, these allow you to do something different while channeling your Southwest/ dessert/ cowboy/ earthy side. Try them with the chambray shirt below or pair with a white t-shirt and wedges or flats. Alternatively, the white tailored jacket, white top and gold jewelry make once fancy pants outfit.
Chambray! Chambray! Chambray! As you know, the chambray shirt is the wardrobe essential right now. The challenge is finding one that is fitted for you, rather than being too baggy. I think a smaller size in this one from Uniqlo is the way to go. The quality is good for the price and I want to be sure to balance investment pieces with more affordable options. I love this with the print tapered pants or the vegan leather leggings listed above. The basic chambray channels your love of the cowboy/ dessert influenced fashion while still keeping everything tailored and put-together. It allows you to rock the more interesting components of your outfits.
I have these. I love these. And, I've had them for quite some time, so I know they hold up well after multiple washings. I especially like the thicker fabric and the center seem which is elongating. You may have a favorite brand of leggings already, which you are welcome to stick with. But, I wanted to give you an option that is a bit more pants/ trousers than traditional leggings to keep it current and polished.
So interesting. So flattering and so easy to accessorize. This dress is a little edgier, but I'm including it because I can see you rocking it effortlessly. The asymmetry is flattering and eye-catching. Plus, there's something about this sort of dress that makes it feel more expensive than it is. It shows confidence and says put together without bothering to accessorize. (See the photo for confirmation.) Designer pieces are fun, too. So, there's that.
So flattering, so easy. the shirt dress is the very definition of tailored and classic. Add an unexpected element by replacing the blue tie with the turquoise skinny belt below or the cork belt. This is also a great canvass for colored jewelry or shoes. The sleeves mean it will be easier to wear without a cardigan or jacket. Although adding the white jacket and DVF wedges with the necklace up top would be very put together. Alternatively, try black wedges and the black blazer with gold or silver jewelry. The v-neck sweater over the top plus a blazer makes for a more preppy situation, as well. Once again, options abound.
Every woman needs a skinny belt in one of her power colors. This is yours. Because you love turquoise so much, this makes you feel great when wearing it and it highlights your skinny waist. Try it over the blue wrap dress and add the brandy DVFs. Or, try it with the coral lace top and jeans. Currently, you are rocking all black with a pop of color. Here's your newest pop. Go forward!
Every wardrobe needs a black v-neck sweater. Here's yours. Affordable cotton cashmere blend from Uniqlo. Done.
I had reservations about including this one because it may be too short for your comfort level. If not, it certainly would look great. The skirt defines your waist, adds curves and has a one of a kind feel. The colors are prevalent in this collection so you'd be able to mix and match it easily with your other pieces. I like the idea of it with your black t-shirt or white tank tucked in. Perhaps you could try the olive green leather tank with a denim jacket or tuck in the chambray shirt and add the necklace at the beginning of your wish list.
It's not often that I recommend the Halogen pieces to Nordstrom employees. But, these pants are unusual without being loud. Trying them in a neutral that isn't black keeps things unpredictable and the ankle length says spring. Love them with any of the tops in this collection or tailored jackets. So put-together but not expected.
Last but not least, you may have thought I forgot a bathing suit cover up. Per your request, here's one that channels your current cover up. Same design, but higher quality and a different pattern, this cover up from J Crew Outlet is affordable and fun without feeling cheap. The deep v is super flattering as are the slightly flared sleeves. Happy Summer!
What a crazy fun challenge. Thank you! Ideally, I've managed to balance your desire to be tailored and put-together with your love of color and Southwestern/ bohemian/ cowboy culture while still including interesting pieces. The collection is limited to your favorite color pallet so that everything will mix and match and I've balanced the number of each type of item to make a functional wardrobe. Finally, there's more here than you may need/want. The goal is to offer you options that don't feel overwhelming and are all specifically curated for you.
