When it comes time for bare legs there can be a lot of anxiety involved. I myself have long struggled with finding the right short for the spring and summer months. I want them to be attractive and youthful, but still be practical and hit the top of my knee for comfort. It’s a daunting task, and yet one that becomes necessary as the days grow warmer, or if you’re lucky you escape somewhere tropical for a slice of paradise.

There are a plethora of options available, but trying to sift through to find the perfect one for each of us takes some effort.

I’ve compiled some of hottest hits of this year’s  styles to make summer shopping a little easier.

With a wide range of styles available for the midi and plus size lady there is something for everyone.

ASOS Curve Culottes in tropical floral print. ASOS. $37.63.

1. Culottes.

Right now Culottes are the big hit for the summer short. Breezy and easy they make a great beach or resort short, while paired with a fancier blouse can become a classy option for a dinner out.

Khaki bermudas. Available in multiple colors. Old Navy. $36.94.

2. Bermudas.

Bermuda’s a perfect go to for any body shape and style. Coming in a range of colors and fabrics this ideal length that should hit at the knee is the jeans of the summer wardrobe. The structure is definitely ideal for a triangle body type, as it streamlines the bottom half.

Knit Waist Linen Short. Lane Bryant. $49.95.

3. Linen Tie Waist Short.

A new front runner in the short scene is the Linen Tie Waist Short. The most at ease of the group in perfect for the warmest of days. Plus who doesn’t want a little Egyptian elegance! These work amazingly at adding balance to an inverted triangle body type.

City Chic High waist denim bermuda shorts. (Plus size). Nordstrom. $58.

4. High Waist Shorts.

High waist shorts are here again! With a retro vibe they tend to have a higher cut leg. These are great for creating the illusion of a longer leg, great for the petite lady.

Sun and Surf Shorts in Blue. Modcloth.com. $49.99.

5. Jean Shorts.

The Jean Short is the staple of all American’s it feel like in the summer. Jazz yours up with a fun wash, or a bit of interesting detailing!

For anyone feeling hesitant about lengths, Old Navy has a wonderful selection of various inseams. Some advice on tricking the eye: if you get your short to hit at the top of your knee it accentuates the shapeliness of the leg by accentuating the narrowest part of your leg.

Play around with colors and patterns, spring and summer are the perfect time to have some fun with colors. Pairing with a neutral up top can accentuate your bottom half, or a pop of color up top with a neutral on bottom will have the opposite effect.

As always, Happy Shopping!
