Featured Client: Bridget

Dressing Bridget’s petite hourlgass frame was so much fun. This dress and sweater coordinated set is super functional for her life and also celebrates her curves.

As a personal stylist for women, sharing client stories with the entire Poplin community is one of my very favorite things to do. Personal styling is an intimate business and I have been extraordinarily fortunate to work with hundreds of truly inspiring, kind, brave women who are beautiful on the inside and out. They say that things will happen when you need them to and Bridget was the perfect client for me at exactly the right time. A Creative who exudes generosity and strength, Bridget lives with intention soaking up every day. She went all in with the Amplified 360 Package. It includes the traditional services: Closet Edit, Uber Wishlist, Tailoring, Virtual Styling and Outfit Creation PLUS an Intimates Wishlist and a Photo Shoot. This is my attempt at making you feel like you were with us along the way. If you find half as much joy as I did, it will be a success.

Bridget: Luminous, Polished, Creative

Bridget has boundless energy and is always on the go. Living in a more casual environment, far from the city, she was looking for opportunities to amp up her style. Her life is very full as she balances her career with parenting three high school and college age kids in partnership with her husband. The two of them are artists at heart and that is evident in their home. Additionally, she help raise money for causes that are important to her doing stand up comedy and gives back to the community on a regular basis. Bridget has made self care a priority recently. When she purchased her styling package she said, “I’ve spent more on landscaping in one season. I realized that I should be able to spend that investing in myself.” And so she did.

I love this shot because you get so much of her energy. She dove into the process head first including reading all of the Poplin blogs and newsletters. She found this Pendleton Coat that I had previously recommended to another client on a sample Uber Wishlist and snatched one up for herself. It’s just right with her style, her lifestyle and her values. It’s got a great story.

From the start, we knew that Bridget had a party in NYC and we’d need to pull out all the stops. She sent over this image from the hotel hallway. Wearing a combo from a black female designer and carrying a sustainable handbag, she had an evening of adoration and joy. This photo says it all.

Approach

Preparing Bridget’s Uber Wishlist was a dream. She was ready to experiment and celebrate her figure. Committed to exercise and healthy living, she was excited to celebrate her shape in mid life. She is also deeply committed to ethical sourcing of materials and fair labor standards. The intimates wishlist was a continuation of our pledge to honor her values, celebrate her life AND encourage her to continue making self care and beauty a priority.

I’ve been a fan of Andrea Iyamah for some time now and was elated when Bridget came along. She was the first client who was just right for Iyamah’s designs. Fortunately, when I recommended two outfits (the orange set is above), she got them both!

Now that’s a headshot!

“Every woman should have this experience,” Bridget said as I tended to the details.

We had the time of our lives during Bridget’s photo shoot at the Asian Art Museum and Volunteer Park Conservatory in Seattle.

TailorinG

Bridget is committed to supporting companies that align with her values and minimizing her environmental impact, when possible. She also loves watching pieces be reinvented to extend their life, which is a big part of the Poplin ethos. For more than 7 years, we’ve been partnering with the same expert tailor to bring old and new pieces to life. Because Bridget is petite, she had experience with tailors, but not like this.

We changed the neckline and the length on this piece to flatter Bridget’s hourglass figure. Here’s the original.

Tailoring is a game changer.

From the client

For starters, I need more than 5 stars for this review! If you had asked me a year ago if I felt confident choosing clothing for myself, I would have answered "Yes". I move boldly through my life and I thought I knew what looked good on me. Something I read led me to Mellicia's website for Poplin Style Direction. Hours went by as I scrolled through her clients' photo shoots, style sheets, color and body shape profiles, outfits and testimonials. I was captivated. Several women expressed that they had spent so many years focused outward, that they could no longer see themselves. That rang true for me. Working with Mellicia has been an enlightening and transformative experience. It is a "trust fall" to let someone into your closet. By embracing the process, I had more fun than I ever could have imagined. I now have a colorful, stylish, unique wardrobe that reflects my creative spirit and my desire to support sustainable brands made by diverse designers. I learned so much about what looks good on me and why. I now know specific makers, colors and styles that flatter my body type. I am asked daily about what I'm wearing and get to say things like "This jacket is made of cactus leather", or "This bag supports craftswomen in Ethiopia". Mellicia brings her big heart, keen insight and years of experience in fashion to every aspect of the process. Whether I'm meeting with clients, going to a party, performing on stage or walking the dog, my clothes are a reflection of a newfound joy and pride in my appearance. I walk with a spring in my step. I will be forever grateful for Mellicia, she helped me find my "shine". More on Yelp.
