How Can I Get Beautiful Lashes?

Ah, Dear Reader, the burning question. Lashes are big, bold and beautiful right now. Long lashes are associated with youth (just take a look at a kid sometime). The longer they are, the more youthful you look. Although, of course, there's a limit.

But, how is it happening? Is everyone wearing falsies? Are they extensions? Is it a treatment? The answers vary and as your very own personal stylist, my job is to give you the tools you need to find the route to your perfect lash. Off we go!

The Lashes of Your Youth Right Now.

My lash extensions from the Lash Factory. You might also notice the all over glow that seems to happen to a woman who just got super long lashes.

1. Opt for lash extensions.

Lash extensions are uber efficient with maximum pay off. They make you look younger and require very little maintenance. Just keep them clean and use a small lash brush each day to maintain the desired shape. I'm a big fan of the Lash Factory in Issaquah. (You can see owner, Lisabet DeVos's handywork in the Poplin video, as she is my extension guru.) If you can't make it to Issaquah (although, it's really not that far), here's Lisabet's advice: "Make sure the person you are seeing is licensed and uses clean tools." These are your eyes, after all.

RevitaLash Advanced Lash Serum. Cake Skincare. $150.

2. Increase lash growth.

Cake Skincare Owner Katrina Rising changed my life (and my brows, incidentally) when she taught me about increasing hair growth. Step one: start taking biotin and Omega 3s. You'll see increased growth on your eyebrows, lashes and even your head. Supplement that with a product designed to increase lash growth like Revitalash Advanced Lash Serum. Here's an extra tip from Katrina: "Apply that product to your eyebrows wherever you'd like hair to grow. It works for lashes and brows." I am proof that it does.

3. Use the best mascara.

Trish McEvoy Dramatic Lash Mascara. Bluemercury. $32.

I asked local makeup artist Hanna Mazur for her mascara recommendation. I always like her take on things and she offers makeup lessons! Love!

"With the mascara choice a lot of time we are often times lured by the fancy brand name or by the impressive ad in the media promising dramatic results. Fist of all, 99% of models in those ads wear false lashes applied with various level of skill which sometimes is quite obvious. Second of all,  even the fanciest mascara will provide mediocre results without proper application techniques.

Rather then buying a tube of expensive brand name mascara and holding on to it for months, buy a more affordable, even drugstore mascara and change often. L'Oreal Voluminous and Great Lash by Maybelline have both been staples of makeup artists' kits for years and still never fail.

Feeling fancy, Yves Saint Laurent Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils Babydoll or Trish MCEvoy Dramatic Lash Mascara is a good paraben-free option."

Whichever path is right for you, there's a way to feel more beautiful and combat aging by maximizing your lashes. Off you go!
