Must Have: Pant Suits
I know. It's hard to hear the words, "pant suit," and not think of Hillary Clinton. But, that's not why we're here. We're here to talk about the resurgence of the matching jacket and pants, AKA pant suit, that's about to take over. As a personal stylist for women, I know that this seems well outside of what Seattle-ites are wearing to work. And, this can sound awfully stuffy and conservative. Not to worry, we can look to Cate Blanchett to show why the pant suit is something worth investing in. I was pining over which suit to show you when I discovered this article that chronicles all of the suits she wore on her Oceans 8 press tour. Magic.
When and How to Wear a Modern Pant Suit in 2018
1. To a luncheon.
My favorite thing is a coordinated suit to a charity luncheon. Monochromatic elongates your frame and makes you look more sophisticated.
2. To a wedding.
Consider the vibe of the occasion. Is it a more formal, evening wedding? If so, try silk or something that references a tuxedo. Is it outdoors during the day? A linen suit or floral print might be just the thing.
3. To a big night out.
The velvet suit was a big request from clients over the holidays. Think New Year's Eve, but with warmer weather. During warmer months that can be the symphony, an auction, etc.
4. To a job interview for a more conservative organization.
The third rail of tech jobs for men is to wear a suit to the interview. Local tech giants even counsel interviewees on what to wear to ensure their ensemble won't create awkwardness. We are in a more relaxed city and in a more relaxed (style-wise, anyway) time. Traditional suits aren't necessary or appropriate for job interviews in several industries. There are, of course, lots of places where a matching pant and jacket combo works well for the interview- public service and law, to name two. Most importantly, make sure to wear something that is authentic to your personal style to ensure you feel confident.
I know it's a big jump. But matchy-matchy is back, my friends. Whether you are coordinating your eye glass frames with your sneakers or your jacket with your pants, the intentional look is coming. Get ready.
