Seattle Sunday Winner: The Chambray Bowtie from Winslow

Sure, the bow tie takes a certain type of person to pull off. But, I'd venture to say that when you (or your fella) take the plunge, all parties involved will be glad you did. The key is styling. Before we get to that, let's make sure you know who won. Was it you?

What to Wear with a Bowtie. Go!

1. Something that communicates you are a man's man.

Just like soft with hard or leather with lace, balance the bow tie with something masculine. Above, our son is wearing my husband's handmade bow tie from Winslow. He just wore it for our Kitchensurfing dinner party on Saturday (more on that in a future post). It was perfectly paired with a denim shirt, slim fitting grey AG jeans and black work boots.

Below you've got the high quality option if you have the resources for the investment. Check out the Anniversary Sale for a deal on Wolverines:) Or, if you want to look put together without breaking the bank, go for an option from the Rail, one of Nordstrom's internal brands.

Wolverine 1000 Mile Krause cap toe boot. Nordstrom. $550.

The Rail Jester Zip Boot. Nordstrom. Anniversary Sale price: $84.99 After sale: $130

2. Something that shows you don't take yourself too seriously.

You can't go wrong with Suit Supply. Beyond the gloriousness that is the selection, just know that Tim Gunn's suits come from the reasonably priced retailer. Enough said. I'm a big fan of the blazer and bow tie. In this summer weather, keep things light. How about colored twill pants or jeans that are rolled at the ankles with wing tips. This time we're balancing classic buttoned up styles with something that's a little more relaxed.

Winslow Grey Chambray Linen Bowtie. Winslow. $45.

Alec Super Skinny Jean. Express. $88. Buy one get one $29.90.

3. Something that shows you take yourself very seriously. And that's just fine.

Yes, friends. A bow tie with a suit can be magical. As with all things, make sure that your look communicates your personal style. And, make sure that you own it. Without question, the most important rule for rocking a bow tie is to own that bow tie. If you don't believe you look dapper, no one else will either. So, go into the whole thing with confidence or don't go in at all.

Let's face it, when you wear a bow tie, you are going to hear about it. So, make sure yours has a great story- like the ties from Winslow that are made from reclaimed fabrics. Suddenly you get points for style chutzpah and your eco friendly lifestyle.

Off you go!
