Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is Here. Do You Know the Fall Runway Trends?

Who doesn't love the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale? For the unindoctrinated, Anniversary (as the groupies call it) gives you the chance to shop the fall trends now. Even better, they are on sale.

Yes! They go on sale now, then up to full price after the sale. And few things are as painful as watching something you saw on sale go up to full price... unless, of course, YOU bought it for the lower price.

Nordstrom card holders get early access to the sale July 10th- 17th. That's today! Don't have a card, you can still get one:)

I find that the  most challenging thing about Anniversary is facing the concept that summer will eventually end. That makes it tough to shop for cold weather clothes. Plus, you've got to start thinking about fall trends to buy those pieces that you will undoubtedly yearn for come October. With that in mind, here's a guide to fall runway trends that you can shop for now and ensure you are comfortable and cool in the Northwest Winter weather.

1. Cozy knits.

It's hard to hear in this lovely warm weather, but you'll be THRILLED with your purchase of cozy knits this fall and winter. Sweater dresses are making a comeback. Believe it! Look for tunics or dresses that hit slightly above or below your knee. Wear them with slouchy pants, knit pants (what?!) or delicate skirts. 

2. Geometric prints.

Our fascination with geometric prints is expected to continue into the fall and winter. Let's face it. We've been wearing stripes for a very long time. Branch out with something angular, interesting and well, not just push yourself beyond the stripe.

3. Flirty dresses.

We love a good dress and the cold weather offers an opportunity to pair one with a cozy knit sweater. Thinking about the rain already? Don't worry. As Northwesterners, we're also addicted to boots. So, try your boots with a flirty dress to avoid damp pant legs. 

4. Unexpected Tailoring

For the more sophisticated and polished set, you'll enjoy seeing discreet tailoring in your future. Coats, jackets and pants with unexpected stitching or pockets are a fun way to tweak a more conservative look. 

5. Animal inspired.

Yes, animal prints are a classic. But, we're talking about shearling, fur and leather. You should know that when I searched for shearling just days ago, the search results only produced items in the $1,000 range. Seriously. Jump on the savings now for this new hot trend.

Designers highlighted voluminous fur coats and shearling detail everywhere. Here in Seattle, those can be tricky as an ongoing drizzle isn't ideal for a fur or faux fur coat. If these seem a little extreme for you, fear not. You're still good to go with leather. And, naturally, there will be shearling inspired items at a lower price point at the year progresses.

6. Artisan and Embellishments. 

Now this is where we shine. Think hand-painted fabrics or jewelry. Extra detailing on sleeves, etc. It may feel a little over the top, but fear not. These pieces are sure to start conversations and make you and your outfit memorable.

7. Sneakers, but you knew that.

Europeans, runway models, trendsetters, they are all rocking sneakers. Here's your excuse to get a new pair.

Fringe, florals, the "Art" shoe (it's exactly what you think it is), voluminous coats, resembling royalty and synthetic fabrics offer other ways to express your personal style. As with everything, remember that your clothes give people a window into who you are. It's important to be current, but above all else, it's vital that you express who you are in a way that makes you feel confident and authentic each day. Anniversary is just one fun way to get you there.
