Winter Accessorizing

Editor's note: Below you'll find another blog post from Poplin contributor and plus size fashion guru, Jordan Richardson.

Hello Dear Reader,

As the frigid weather approaches I have been asked about how to layer up and stay warm but still feel stylish and shapely. With a lot of winter wear being bulky it can be hard to feel sleek under so many layers. But with a bit of accessorizing know how, and warm layers underneath like a cashmere sweater and fleece lined leggings you will be all set to brazen the winter chills while still feeling fabulous.

Oversized Scarf

BP Colorblock Blanket Scarf. Nordstrom. $30.00

There is few things more snuggly than a big warm scarf. This great and affordable scarf comes in a few colors and would be a great addition to a winter black ensemble, and dashed over your favorite coat. Plus as I learned a warm neck keeps colds at bay.

Fabulous Frock Coat

ASOS Curve Midi Coat with Faux Fur Collar. ASOS.com. $180.00

In a bus stopping color that will snag notice from afar, this faux fur collar coat will keep you warm around the neck and long enough to match length with your favorite winter dresses and skirts.

Cozy Hands

Charter Club Tech Palm Fleece Lined Gloves. Macy's. $78.00

In lovely leather capable of slipping that bus pass out of the wallet and packinginto the car while keeping those digits toasty warm. Need I say more. You may even take a chance on a longer length this season ala. 1940's Hollywood.

Lined Legs

Sparkle Stripe Fleece Lined Leggings. Lane Bryant. $29.95

I don't know about you but lined leggings are a savior for my dress and skirt wardrobe come cooler temperatures. These fun ones with a bit of seasonal sparkle would be so much fun tucked onto over the knee boots with a warm long tunic.

Boots for slush

SOREL 'JoanArctic' Wedge Boot. Nordstrom. $239.95

With what seems like feet of rain pouring on us in the Washington area all I could think of lately was cute and waterproof shoes. These adorable and chic pair but quality Sorel would be an amazing addition to a winter wardrobe with tights skinny jeans, or even pumping up the volume on some voluminous flares.

A few pieces that might help brave the winter cold without having to layer too much. Look for cozy linings, and waterproof fabrics to help make the winter months a bit more bearable.
