Nordstrom Anniversary Picks: Fashion Forward

Welcome to the third in my series of picks from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. If you aren't familiar with Anniversary, it's that special time of year when you can buy new fall pieces on sale. Everything moves to full price when Anniversary is over. And, right now we are still in early access (until July 21st). That means only cardholders can purchase. This is at the top of my personal shopping list. Modern, appropriate for a variety of situations and flattering for those of us who carry our weight down below. Yes!

Last year, I looked EVERYWHERE for the right pair of gold ankle boots. And here they are! Love them with the dress above!

Topshop 'Maria' Chelsea Block Heel Boot . Nordstrom. Now: $99 Will be: $150.

If you misplace your sunnies on the regular, these aren't for you. But, if you are able to keep them, this luxurious and high impact pair elevate the most basic of outfits.

Fendi 52mm Cat Eye Sunglasses. Available in two colors. Nordstrom. Now: $310. Will be: $465.

It's reversible, affordable and just the right size for your phone, keys and lipstick. What else do you need?

Phase 3 Reversible Wristlet Clutch. Available in three colors. Nordstrom. Now: $23. Will be: $49.

I bought a similar jumpsuit last year and have never looked back. Just right for concerts (I wore mine to the B-52s at Zoo Tunes), the office or a night out. Just change your shoes and accessories to suit the occasion.

Pair that beauty with these pants and a great pair of heels and you just became the hippest woman in the room.

Vince Pull-On Slim Fit Crop Trousers. Nordstrom. Now: $149 Will be: $225.

You can't go wrong with shoes that make an impression and still work with your wardrobe. The array of color stories is a dream. Find the pair that's right for your closet.

Swap out your old cardigan for a streamlined leather jacket. You'll look and feel more stylish and still be rocking a completely functional outfit.

A crossbody bag that makes an impact. This is a dream for women with inverted triangle body shapes as it draws the eye down and balances out wide shoulders. 

Hobo 'Adelle' Print Leather Crossbody Bag. Nordstrom. Now: $118. Will be: $178.

There are few things that I adore as much as a leather top. Take it to the next level with a light neutral rather than black. Yes, you certainly can. And, a peplum minimizes your stomach and add curves to a straighter body. It's really flattering for nearly everyone.

Love this unexpected print brought to us by Melissa McCarthy.

A perfectly draped dress is never a mistake and this option from Lafayette 148 works for work and play. It's also available in royal blue if you are feeling a little more patriotic.

Earlier in the year, Topshop brought us the top version of this dress. Now, the dress is here! This has been a hit with a couple of my clients. And, the price is certainly right. 

Topshop Colorblock Shift Dress. Nordstrom. Now: $75. Will be: $115.

Milly never disappoints. An indulgence. But, if you can swing the price tag, you'll feel powerful rocking this colorblocked dress.

Milly 'Helix' Colorblock Sleeveless Sheath Dress. Nordstrom. Now: $254. Will be: $425.

Cozy, modern and really spectacular when paired with a bottom of the same color. Monochromatic looks elongate your frame and show confidence. 

Lafayette 148 New York Stand Collar Quilted Sweatshirt. Nordstrom. Now: $198. Will be: $298.

More light colored leather! A-line skirts are great for those of us who carry our weight in our lower halves. But, they are also just right for women with few curves. Remember to wear this at your smallest point, not low on your waist and tuck your top in (or go for a crop top).

Over the knee boots are BIG this year. They should hit you at your smallest point, just above your knee, if you can. These are sophisticated and would look spectacular with the off white outfit above or the DVF dress below, for starters.

SARTO By Franco Sarto 'Faye' Over the Knee Boot. Nordstrom. Available in three colors. Now: $159 Will be: $268.

It takes a bold woman to rock a super feminine dress to the office. A dress with long sleeves is ideal in our climate as you can skip the final layer making getting ready in the morning that much faster. Make this edgier with the boots above or an ankle boot. 

Diane von Furstenberg 'Arabella' Pinstripe Silk Dress. Nordstrom. Now: $238 Will be: $398.

Alternatively, layer this jacket from Lafayette 148 over top and pair with black boots. This brand is ideal for women with curves and is headed by an African American designer, which is rare in the industry. Very cool.

If you are a fan of darker colors, this is an unexpected bag for you. The hobo style is still going strong and this high quality option balances the relaxed boho style with sophistication and class.

Rebecca Minkoff 'Bryn' Double Zip Hobo. Available in port, black. Nordstrom. Now: $196. Will be: $295.

It's always an adventure searching for the right sweatshirt. Let's face it, some days you just want to put on something cozy. This is the way to do it without sacrificing style. Try it with leather or go for the chiffon pleated skirt below, the tri colored shoes and the Rebecca Minkoff hobo bag. Bam.

Topshop Foil Brushed Sweatshirt. Nordstrom. Now: $39 Will be: $60.

Remember to wear this at your natural waist and tuck in your fitted top. Or, go for a more relaxed vibe with the outfit I just described and a leather jacket over top. 

Topshop Chiffon Pleated Midi Skirt. Nordstrom. Now: $55. Will be: $85.

Functional, expressive and actually more practical than you might imagine. This pair of block heels comes in a variety of color combos. Choose what works best with your collection.

BCBGMAXAZRIA 'Billee' Colorblock Pump. Available in multiple color combinations. Nordstrom. Now: $166. Will be: $249.

Wide leg pants! Navy! DVF! How can you say, "no?" You can't.

Diane von Furstenberg 'Preston' Wide Leg Crepe Pants. Nordstrom. Now: $229. Will be: $348.

Jumpsuits are going strong. Dress them up or down depending on the occasion. This is a dream for most body types. 

ASTR Paisley Halter Jumpsuit. Nordstrom. Now: $58. Will be: $98.

If this is your style, you'll know it immediately. Clearly, it has a very youthful vibe, so be sure that rocking this look doesn't make you look older than you are. (Sometimes, going too junior can do that.) 

CeCe by Cynthia Steffe 'Jada' Collared Shift Dress (Regular & Petite). Nordstrom. Now: $98. Will be: $148.

A cool, unique sweater that works well with the on trend colors of the moment. 

Topshop Lightning Bolt Sweater. Nordstrom. Now: $52 Will be: $80.

Sneakers! You can never go wrong with the classics. I once discovered this style of Vans in hot pink at the Vans outlet in another state for a great price. I was so elated that I bought several pair for friends. Then, I packed them with Easter grass, fake daisies and mailed them out to celebrate the holiday. Translation: These are cool now and will be for years. Plus, black is easier to match than hot pink. So, there's that. 

Vans 'Sk8-Hi Slim' Sneaker. Nordstrom. Now: $49. Will be: $74.

Style should not suffer simply because a woman has curves. Big fan of this sheath for work. 

Ellen Tracy Colorblock Sheath Dress (Plus Size). Nordstrom. Now: $78 Will be: $118.

This dress works well for inverted triangle body types as well as hourglass, rectangle and triangles. It's a nice alternative to a standard sheath and sometimes you just want to wear red.

Topshop Faux Wrap Front Midi Dress. Nordstrom. Now: $79. Will be: $125.

If you rock a suit to work, this is the option for you. It's modern, it's sophisticated. 

Theory 'Brixmill B Token' Suit Jacket. Nordstrom. Now: $297. Will be: $445.
