As a personal stylist for women in the Seattle area, I get lots of questions about style. As we move further into the styling process, I start to get lots more questions about everything else. From hair to skincare to philanthropy and summer camps for kids: You name it. I've been asked about it.
So, when I'm able to offer up another option for clients and readers, I'm elated. After all, I only recommend what I truly love. As each client has her own unique personal style, it's vital that I connect her with resources that are right for her. Enter Pinup Salon.
Pinup Salon: Why I'm Into It.
1. The Vibe.
Who knew you could find a cozy salon right in the middle of the city. Pinup salon has two locations (one in Ravenna and one in West Seattle). I haven't been to the West Seattle location, but I can tell you that the owner still styles hair there, which is pretty awesome. I had a haircut and style in the walkable and relaxed Ravenna neighborhood. The shop only has a couple of chairs plus a sitting area; but it feels nice and open inside. I brought my 7 year old son along and he read while I learned all sorts of things about the salon and my hair. Locally owned and operated, it's really comfortable to have a kid in the salon when necessary.
2. The Skillz.
It's common to make a trade off- small, charming salon or cutting edge styling skills. I was delighted to discover that Pinup salon had both. In fact, my stylist is a certified DevaCurl stylist, meaning that she is certified by DevaCurl to do stellar dry cuts on curly hair. The top half of my hair is wavy and the bottom half is straight, which can be mighty perplexing. But, she was all over it. She recommended Deva Curl Wave Maker to style my hair and I've been loving it.
3. The Range of Services.
Folks travel for miles to find a certified DevaCurl specialist. But, what if you don't have curly hair? Is it worth the effort? Not to worry, there's a wide range of services. Those include wedding and special occasion hair, color, etc. AND vintage styling. How cool is that? Plus there's waxing and makeup lessons. The appointment immediately before mine was a gentleman who is clearly a regular and seemed to be enjoying his afternoon haircut.
Before we go, here's a hot tip for you. A big part of Poplin Style is ensuring that you can ensure that you are communicating your authentic personal style everyday while still living your life. Everything needs to be easy because really, who's got the time? Poplin clients have outfit photos they can view each day to figure out what to wear. Another amazing time-saver? Blowouts. Consider getting your hair styled at a salon and keeping it for a few days. It's really not necessary to wash your hair everyday and having a great blowout can cut down your morning routine substantially. They are generally more affordable than you expect- starting around $35 and up, depending on the salon. I asked Jane, my stylist at Pinup, to style my hair knowing that I had a photo shoot the next day and wouldn't wash it in between. I'm including a photo of my hair here so you can see Day 2. I washed it the evening of Day 3. That means one hairstyle for three days, folks. Life just got easier.
