These Products Make My Memorable Hair Possible

Amika Touchable Hairspray. My go-to for big hair and multiple days of curl.

Here’s a hilarious screenshot of me from one of the videos in the Poplin Membership: Momentum. This is day 2 of my hair after curling and using this spray.

Amika Touchable Hairspray

Who knew that the most important word on a hairspray label is “touchable”?! I certainly did not. I’ve gotten really into big hair lately. You can see an example above. Curling my hair is a full time job and frankly, I don’t often do it myself. That means when it is curled, I really need it to last for more than one day. This hairspray makes that possible. I use it liberally and it keeps the volume and helps ensure my hair doesn’t feel crunchy. We recorded this video on day two of my hair and you can tell I’ve slept on it because one side is a little flatter than the other;)

R+Co Chiffon Styling Mousse

Oh my goodness. So again, my eternal struggle is to hold curl without having frizz. Apparently, heat is essential to minimizing frizz, so just forget about all that guidance to avoid heat. Just make sure your hair is protected from the heat before blowdrying or curling. More on that later. Anyway, countless stylists have suggested gels- too crunchy for me and I really don’t like it when my hair looks wet. In the end, I learned about this spectacular mousse from R+Co. I put it on when my hair is almost dry and scrunch repeatedly. Then, I’ll spray with touchable hairspray to keep the shape throughout the day. I’ve even put some mousse on dry second day hair, scrunching the curls, which separates them nicely. That second day hair above is the result of this approach.

Pattern giant comb. It’s like a piece of art that actually makes your hair better.

Pattern Beauty Wide Toothed Comb

Tracee Ellis Ross doesn’t disappoint with her product line Pattern. Honestly, I bought this comb initially because I love her and it really is just so beautiful. It’s giant and for lack of a better word, design-y. The top layer of my hair is wavy and the bottom layer is straight. Plus, it’s colored. Haircare is an adventure.

To my surprise and delight, it’s become an essential part of my haircare routine. I use this to lightly comb my dry, styled hair keeping tangles at bay. When I first pop out of the shower, I use this comb as the first step in my haircare process. It seems crazy because the teeth are so large, but starting with this comb and following up with a more traditional comb is the ideal pairing. I used to use a wet brush and that just felt like I was being too hard on my hair. Somehow, it feels like tangles aren’t much of an issue anymore.

Protecting your hair from heat is a must especially because applying heat helps minimize frizz.

Aveda Heat Relief

This is my go-to before blow drying or curling my hair. As I mentioned, frizz is my main issue and applying heat actually decreases frizz. But, I still need to protect my hair from the heat. This is a complicated situation. Fortunately, I’ve got this Aveda product to handle it. It’s been a favorite for about a year.

Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me Masque is my favorite deep conditioning treatment to minimize frizz and dryness.

Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me Masque

When I’m really unhappy with my hair, it’s because it’s feeling especially dry and frizzy. And whenever that happens, I discover that I haven’t been staying on top of regular treatments with Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me Masque. If I ran the world, Kevin Murphy products would be in containers without corners. They look so cool and yet it’s very challenging to get all the product out over time. Sigh. Despite this design flaw, I keep coming back to this product. Truthfully, I leave it in and then the next time I wash my hair a few days later, I rinse it out. So, it’s always in heavy rotation, rather than doing a treatment once a week.
